With a business volume of more than EUR 41 billion in 2009 and more than 1,000 employees in Bremen and Oldenburg, Bremer Landesbank is the biggest regional bank situated between the Ems and Elbe rivers. It performs the functions of a Landesbank, a central bank for savings banks and a commercial bank.
Bremer Landesbank is owned by Norddeutsche Landesbank, which has 92.5 % of the share capital, and the federal state of Bremen, which has the remaining 7.5 % shareholding.

History
Bremer Landesbank has its roots in the Bodencredit-Anstalt of the Duchy of Oldenburg, founded in 1883, and Bremer Landesbank – Girozentrale –, which was founded in 1938. Bremer Landesbank Kreditanstalt Oldenburg – Girozentrale – as it is today was established in 1983. This was when the federal states of Bremen and Lower Saxony concluded a state treaty on the merger of the direct predecessor institutions "Bremer Landesbank – Girozentrale –" and "Staatliche Kreditanstalt Oldenburg-Bremen".

Bremer Landesbank sees itself as a universal bank. It operates as a regional commercial bank and also conducts special banking transactions which extend beyond the Region: At the same time it maintains its function as a Landesbank and central bank for the savings banks. The Bank's core area of business: North West Germany. From this base the Bank supports its regional and supra-regional customers in Europe with first-class concepts for realizing their financial goals. In doing so the Bank actively uses the market leadership of the savings banks financing association.

Responsibility for the North Western Region
In addition to operating its four business segments, the Bank fulfils its special responsibility with its participating interests. The focus of its investment portfolio is on special regional and supra-regional institutions in the financial sector, notably the savings bank financing association. Bremer Landesbank contributes equally to fulfilling its public mandate and strengthening the regional economy with its participating interests.
Business area
The business area of Bremer Landesbank covers the North Western Region of Germany. It includes the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen and the counties of Ammerland, Aurich, Cloppenburg, Cuxhaven, Diepholz, Friesland, Leer, Oldenburg (Oldb.), Osterholz, Rotenburg (Wümme), Vechta, Verden, Wesermarsch, Wittmund and the incorporated towns of Delmenhorst, Emden, Oldenburg (Oldb.) and Wilhelmshaven.
The Bank also operates its special financing business on a national and international level where it conducts its activities from a number of foreign branches.
Foreign branches
Bremer Landesbank is represented with a contact office at its branch in London. As a member of the NORD/LB Group, Bremer Landesbank also has access to a large number of international trading centres.
Regional commitment
The focus of Bremer Landesbank activities: the satisfaction of its customers in realizing their financial goals. For the Bank it is also very important to contribute towards the quality of the North Western Region as a location and to the quality of life there.
This prompted the Bank to offer a regional sponsorship prize for the first time in 2005 – the North West Award. People, companies and organizations that have made an outstanding contribution to the development and identity of the North Western Region are allowed to apply for this award.
